# Glossary The Datastreams Platform introduces several concepts and acronyms. This section is a brief explanation of the concepts and it's uses. ## DataOps A collaborative data management practice focused on improving the communication, integration and automation of data flows between data managers and data consumers across an organization. ## DevOps A set of practices that combines software development and IT operations. It aims to shorten the systems development life cycle and provide continuous delivery with high software quality. ## DimML [DimML](https://docs.dimml.io/) is an acronym for Data in Motion Machine Language, which is a proprietary domain specific language that runs on the DPU. All modules are eventually generated DimML code. ## DimML Data in Motion Machine Language. A proprietary domain specific language that runs on the DPU. ## DPU The DPU is an acronym for Data Processing Unit. The DPU does all the heavy lifting of the data processing. The data is asynchronously processed using a [Directed Acyclic Graph(DAG)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Directed_acyclic_graph) structure. ## FaaS Function as a Service. A category of cloud computing services that provides a platform allowing customers to develop, run, and manage application functionalities without the complexity of building and maintaining the infrastructure typically associated with developing and launching an app. ## KYC Know your customer or know your client. ## SaaS Software as a Service. Software as a service is a software licensing and delivery model in which software is licensed on a subscription basis and is centrally hosted.
